Students’ Accommodation Services
Students’ accommodation services at the Sokoine University of Agriculture are coordinated by the Sokoine University of Agriculture Housing and Accommodation Bureau (SUAHAB). The University possess a number of hostels under its campuses; Mizengo Pinda Campus (MPC), Edward Moringe Campus (EMC) and Solomon Mahlangu Campus (SMC) which are for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The hostels have rooms of different sizes and facilities, therefore, they vary in capacity of accommodating students. There are rooms which can accommodate 2, 3, 4 and 6 undergraduate students. On the other hand, there are single rooms for postgraduate students. The overall accommodation capacities of the University Hostels are as summarized in Table 1 below.
For 2023/2024 academic year SUAHAB has 3391 accommodation spaces for undergraduate students and 143 for postgraduate students which make a total capacity of 3,534 spaces as shown below:-

Students are allocated for room spaces after applying for the on-campus accommodation in consideration of criteria for allocating accommodation as per the Sokoine University of Agriculture Staff Housing and Students’ Accommodation Policy 2018 and its guidelines. The rooms in the University hostel blocks are furnished with beds, mattresses, tables and chairs.
Students are not allowed to remove fittings from the rooms and they are responsible for the proper care of all properties found in the rooms. Any damage or loss must be reported immediately to the Warden/Bureau Coordinator. The Students By- Laws and Students Accommodation policy and guidelines 2018 stipulate all accommodation disciplinary offences.
Students Accommodation Priority
Since the accommodation facilities are not adequate, the university management devised its accommodation policy and guidelines. According to the SUA staff Housing and Students’ Accommodations Policy (2018) and its guidelines, students will be offered accommodation in the University hostels in the following priority:-

Application for Accommodation
Accommodation fees will vary depending on whether you are a graduate or undergraduate student and the status of the hostel
Rooms are not shared. The accommodation fee is TShs. 1,800,000.00 per student per year plus depreciation fee (nonrefundable) of TShs. 20,000.00.
The total payment is TShs. 1,820,000.00 for local students and USD 1,800 for international students per year. All payments should be made in one instalment.
Rooms are shared by two to six students
Rooms are shared with 3 students. The accommodation fee is TShs. 176,800.00 per student per year plus depreciation fee (nonrefundable) of TShs. 10,000.00. The total payment is TShs. 186,800.00 for first -year Students and Tshs. 176,800.00 for continuing students. All payments should be made in one or two instalments.
A room can be reserved by paying at least a half (Accommodation fee for one semester) or full (Annual) accommodation fee.
(i) Local students: TShs. 630.00 per day per bed
(iii) International students: USD 1.7 per day per bed.
Different groups (students and non-students) wishing to stay in our hostels during long vacations are warmly welcome.
