The thanks were given by the Vice Chancellor of the Sokoine university of Agriculture Prof. Raphael Chibunda during the launching ceremony of the new NMB SUA Branch on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.
"We as Scholars see this Bank as the mainstay of the economy in the country due to the great investment they have made and the services they provide for many years since its incorporation", said Prof. Chibunda.
Speaking when handing over the chairmanship of CVCPT in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the Vice Chancellor for the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) Prof Raphael Chibunda said that during his two year tenure there were a lot of issues that needed to be addressed, including how higher education can contribute more to national development.
The advice was given by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raphael Chibunda on 1st February 2021 during a short prize-giving ceremony for three Sokoine University of Agriculture students who won prizes (two LAPTOPs and one smartphone) provided by CRDB Bank SUA branch for performing many transactions through their CRDB owned SCHOLAR ACCOUNT.
The occasion aimed to expose students to the environment and culture of Sokoine University of Agriculture as well as to allow staff and students to interact with each other and experience the real life of the university
Deputy Vice-chancellor (Academic), Professor Maulid Mwatawala, delivered an official opening speech where he started by acknowledging the presence of the first-year postgraduate students, staff and various members of the management team for coming to the event despite many responsibilities they have.
The advice was given by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration and Finance) Prof. Amandus Muhairwa on behalf of the university's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Raphael Chibunda while opening a one-day training workshop for traditional healers from various parts of the country organized by the Green Resources Innovations for Livelihood Improvement (GRILI) project on 21st January 2021 at Solomon Mahlangu Campus in Mazimbu Morogoro
This is an ongoing program, which is conducted twice a month i.e. each second and fourth Friday of each month at SNAL Computer Lab, where our library users supposed to register themselves for attendance before or on the day of training physically at the library’s entrance at issue desk. This is one of the useful trainings that helps to build skills on information search strategies with less effort in accessing a vast range of available electronic resources both free and subscribed by SNAL.
A total of twenty deserving PhD Scholarship applicants were awarded REFOREST PhD scholarships to undertake the PhD Forest Sciences Program at SUA. The students are from Ethiopia (4), Mozambique (3), Rwanda (4), Uganda (4) and Tanzania (5). Out of the 20 scholarship awardees 17 reported at SUA on the 10th January 2021. Three students from Rwanda are expected to report later after completing all the required procedures in their country.
The Collection was established in 2016 and comprised of hard copies held in the library building (Edward Moringe Campus) and electronic collection of publications accessed at https://www.lib.sua.ac.tz/mkulima/. The aim of this collection is to cater to the information needs of the farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector within and outside the country.
The theme for the workshop was “Discovery and Utilization of E-Resources for Supporting Research, Teaching and Learning”. The training workshop aimed at bringing together researchers, academicians, librarians, and information professionals to learn and share experiences on current trends on the discovery and effective utilization of scholarly content, marketing of e-resources and e-resources usage patterns.
The vaccine - known as Tatu Moja (Swahili for ‘Three-in-One’) was developed to prevent Newcastle disease, Fowl pox and Infectious coryza: some of the common and chronic respiratory diseases.
The vaccine was researched and developed by the scientists led by Prof Philemon Wambura and Dr Mirende Kichuki, both from SUA.
“These are chronic diseases which have been affecting poultry in Tanzania for a long time,” said Prof Wambura by phone yesterday.
Speaking during the presentation of the awards on December 20, 2020, Morogoro Regional Cultural Officer, Ms. Sophia Kingwai said that the awards are a testament to the quality of the work one does in Morogoro region and it shows growth in the Information and Broadcasting Industry.
She also urged broadcasters and media owners to get rid of the notion that awards are only given in Dar es Salaam, but all they have to do is to increase their diligence and effort in their work and the Awards will follow them wherever they are.
At the event, all graduates advised to use their education, knowledge, and skills to build their nations and to always change their minds by recognizing and understanding that there is currently no guarantee for a lifetime job instead there are plenty of life opportunities that are good and they must seize them for their own personal development and nations as a whole.

This was stated by the Director of Science Technology and Innovation from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Maulilio Kipanyula who represented the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Leonard Akwilapo at the prize-awarding ceremony for those students who excelled in various subjects and outstanding student leadership which was held on Thursday, 17 December 2020 at the Multipurpose Hall, Edward Moringe Campus (formerly Main Campus).
The statement was issued by the Minister of State in the office of the President (Investment), Prof. Kitila Mkumbo while speaking at the annual General Conference of the Convocation of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) on Thursday 17 December 2020 which is accompanied by the presentation of various prizes and awards to 211 graduate students who excelled in their studies.
Speaking to leaders of the Department and various production units, Judge Chande said that apart from the fact that the main role of the university is to teach and do research there is still a great opportunity to generate internal revenue.
He added that it is time for the university to check whether it is satisfied with the internal revenue collected from various sources or activities undertaken to bring in revenue.
He expressed his gratitude recently in Dodoma Tanzania while speaking to SUAMEDIA Journalist on the Importance and Objectives of the presence of the University of Agriculture in the region which has been blessed with many opportunities for the production of agricultural and livestock products.
Hon. Pinda explained that while he was still in government, he had the idea to help the people of the region by establishing a university that would be responsible for providing various courses and training on Agriculture and Livestock issues but the idea could not succeed.
The vaccine known as Tatu Moja has been researched and developed by the scientists led by Professor Philemon Wambura and Dr. Mirende Kichuki both from the Sokoine University of Agriculture.
The vaccine contains a combination of three vaccines for the control of Newcastle disease, Fowl pox and Infectious coryza.
The Hospital has recently embarked on a program of improvement involving building expansion and upgrading of medical equipment. Dr. Isack Kashoma who is the managing director of the hospital noted that the improvements made are important steps in ensuring that services at the hospital will be of the highest standard.
The upgrading of this hospital has been made possible by the funding of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, and the "Foundation Science for Development" organization under the Polish government.

This was stated by the principal of the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism, Prof. Suzan Augustino during the presentation of the results of the study in front of Forest stakeholders in Morogoro and said that great efforts have been made by TFCG and the Tanzania Forest Management Community Network (MJUMITA) to ensure that the whole community participates and benefits from the resources from the forests.
The training offered is an operationalization of Sokoine University of agriculture (SUA) and Food Organization of the United Nations (FAO) collaborative agreement, which was signed in March 2020 to train 200 youths on horticulture and poultry as agribusinesses. Whereas SUA provides technical expertise in training the youth, FAO play the role as a funding partner. The training project constitutes horticulture, and poultry as core technical components, and entrepreneurship and agri-business as cross-cutting key components.

This happened on 28th August, 2020 when the Deputy Secretary General of the ministry visited the new Sokoine University of Agriculture campus named after the former Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Mizengo Pinda. He went to see the preparation and environment of the campus which is expected to receive students from 23rd November 2020.

Handing over the bags to the headmaster of the school on behalf of the construction committee, Vice Chancellor of Sokoine University of Agriculture, Prof. Raphael Chibunda said the university was touched by the situation at the school immediately after seeing students studying under a tree.
Speaking during the handing over of the machines on 11th August, 2020 at SUA main campus, Alliance One Company's director of human resources, Mr Blasius Lupenza said the aim of providing ventilator machines to SUA hospital was to help increase their capability in combating COVID 19, although God has already helped our nation to deal with the disease, human precautions must continue to be taken.
Overall, SUA won three awards; a trophy and a certificate for first winner in the category of Colleges and Universities at national level exhibitions in Simiyu whereas SUA won a certificate for the third winner in the public organizations category at eastern zone shows in Morogoro.

Speaking at the Nane Nane Exhibitions which take place in Simiyu, Dr. Georgies Mgode, a Researcher from Sokoine University of Agriculture’s Pest Management Center said contrary to popular belief about the owl bird being used in superstitious practices, owls can be a savior of farmers that helps to eliminate rodents and pests that destroy crops on the farm.
"The owl has a great ability to see at night so it hunts small animals like rats, insects and even birds" said Dr. Mgode.
The University developed its first Intellectual Property (IP) policy in 2005 in keeping with its Corporate Strategic Plan (SUACSP) 1997-2005. A number of relevant stakeholders including students, researchers, administrators, industry, Government ministries, public and private organizations were involved.
